The place of buildings in the Fit for 55
The decarbonisation of buildings is at the core of the Fit for 55 package – and rightly so as the building sector will play a crucial role towards the EU climate and energy goals. It has even gained in importance due to the urgent need to minimise EU’s dependency on Russian fossil fuels.
Creating a coherent and robust framework to lead us to a zero-emissions building stock by 2050 will be a significant task. Policymakers will need to have an overall view and coordinate several legislative files that are currently under discussion.
Although the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is the key instrument on buildings, it will necessarily be complemented by the Energy Efficiency Directive, the Renewables Energy Directive and other instruments such as the Emissions Trading System and the Social Climate Fund.
In this webinar, speakers will consider the connections between these legislative instruments and discuss how to best create a coherent framework for buildings to meet the EU’s 2030 and 2050 targets.
