Since 1998, working to make energy efficiency part of every EU policy that affects buildings.
Our history
Efficient Buildings Europe started out in 1998 as EuroACE, the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings. A group of leading companies founded it after the European Commission invited industry to discuss how to cut energy use in buildings.
In 2024 we became Efficient Buildings Europe, a name that says more plainly what we work on. Our members cover all efficient building technologies: heating and cooling, insulation, ventilation, windows, lighting, solar shading, automation and controls, design software and water-efficient products.

- 2011 Launch of the Renovate Europe Campaign.
- 2018 20 years of EuroACE.
- 2022 The Renovate Europe Campaign starts organising the C4E Forum.

What we do
We work with the EU institutions and other stakeholders to make sure energy efficiency is part of every EU policy that affects buildings.
Policy
We follow EU energy and buildings policy closely, publish position papers and respond to consultations, and push for ambitious laws and their full implementation, especially the EPBD and the Energy Efficiency Directive.
Research and events
We commission research and organise events, webinars and our Efficient Mornings.

Buildings use around 40% of the EU’s energy and produce about a third of its energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Around three quarters of them are inefficient, and most will still be standing in 2050. Making them efficient is one of the most cost-effective ways to cut energy bills and imports, improve health and comfort, reduce energy poverty and create local jobs. Our goal is a zero-emission EU building stock by 2050, as set out in the EPBD. That means renovating more buildings, renovating them more deeply, and building new ones to the highest standard.
