On 23rd June, the European Parliament Plenary approved an own-initiative report on the Energy Efficiency Directive (PIEPER Report), calling the European Commission to include strong provisions on building renovation in its upcoming energy efficiency reviews in October.
After being approved in the ITRE Committee on 24th May, the PIEPER Report, an own-initiative report monitoring the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive, was approved in the European Parliament Plenary with 253 votes in favor, 193 votes against, and 46 abstentions.
“We welcome the fact that the European Parliament has taken a robust position on energy renovation of buildings, ahead of the publication of the Commission’s legislative proposals in October”, stated Susanne DYRBOEL, President of EuroACE. Industry needs a clear signal, i.e. that actions to improve energy efficiency, in particular energy renovations of buildings, are an EU priority. Renovation is a true engine for local jobs and growth, especially in SMEs, that will ensure that the EU keeps a strong industrial base in the next decades.
