The POLITICO Morning Energy Newsletter featured a statement from Adrian JOYCE, EuroACE Secretary General, on the potential of buildings with regard energy efficiency.
THE PROBLEM WITH BUILDINGS: More than 40 percent of the energy used across the European Union stems from the buildings sector, representing 36 percent of CO2 emissions — yet the current rate of renovation to make buildings more energy efficient is at only 1 percent per year. We’re talking about everything from changing windows, insulating the walls, installing efficient heating systems or solar panels. Accelerating the renovation pace could reduce energy demand in this sector by 80 percent across the bloc by 2050 from 2005 levels, Adrian Joyce, the secretary general of EuroACE, an association representing companies involved with energy efficiency products for buildings, told me.
