Feedback: Energy Efficiency Directive Roadmap
EuroACE gave its feedback on the Commission’s evaluation and inception impact assessment of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). Our main points:
- The Commission recognises the importance of energy efficiency and the lack of recent progress, but this does not lead to a stronger and more forward-looking approach
- There is a big oversight: raising the 2030 energy efficiency target at EU level to at least 40%, and making it binding
- The revision of Article 5 is very welcome: its scope should be widened to all public buildings, alternatives deleted and the ambition increased regarding the depth of renovation. Article 5 should be moved to the EPBD and integrated into the Long-Term Renovation Strategies
- The revision is also an opportunity to improve the enabling framework for energy efficiency and revise Articles 6, 7, 16, 17 and 20
- A revision of the EED is much needed, but implementation of the current legislation should not be put on hold
