Press Release: Renovation Wave – A promising travel plan to the new shores of a renovated building stock
EuroACE – Energy Efficient Buildings welcomed the publication of the Renovation Wave Communication, a flagship initiative of the European Commission. It aims at renovating millions of buildings in the next decade, allowing for a win-win-win result: boosting our economy in periods of recovery, delivering better homes to citizens, and putting us on track to meet our climate neutrality goal by 2050.
“The focus of the Renovation Wave is totally right,” said Adrian Joyce, Secretary General of EuroACE. “The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive in 2010 and 2018 has set the right pathway for new buildings, now the Renovation Wave sets the priority on the millions of buildings which are still inefficient and leaky today – and it’s a very timely initiative.”
The Communication shows a real shift in gear in the Commission’s ambition. It announces a proposal to introduce Minimum Energy Performance Standards for all types of buildings, a key tool to increase both the rate and the depth of renovation, as well as Building Renovation Passports by 2023 and renovation requirements for more buildings serving the general interest, such as schools and hospitals.
