NECPs: our letters to seven Member States on their final National Energy and Climate Plans
With only two months left for Member States to submit their final National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), EuroACE wrote to the responsible ministers in France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Czechia, Poland and Spain, each in the national language, to stress the importance of renovating buildings and transforming them into highly energy efficient buildings to reach climate neutrality by 2050.
As a new European Commission prepared to take office with the EU Green Deal as a key priority, we called on each country to let energy efficiency in buildings develop its full potential in its final plan. With today’s technologies, it is possible to reduce the energy needs of buildings by at least 80% by 2050, bringing better health, more jobs and lower energy bills.
Although the official deadline to transpose the EPBD was 10 March 2020, we recommended that some elements of the long-term renovation strategies be included in the final NECPs already:
- Milestones for 2030, 2040 and 2050
- Nationally established progress indicators
- An estimate of the expected energy savings and wider benefits
- The contribution of the buildings sector to the overall energy efficiency target
