The Energy Union governance: a good tool to implement energy efficient building renovation policies
On 26 November 2015, the Council of the EU adopted conclusions on the governance system of the Energy Union, a methodology to ensure that legislation, including on energy efficiency, is well implemented by Member States and that agreed targets are met.
“The governance system will be a great tool for the European Commission to make sure that important pieces of Energy Union legislation are implemented, delivering expected results, and contributing to achieve agreed targets,” said Adrian Joyce, Secretary General of EuroACE.
Based on verifiable key performance indicators, the system will encourage Member States to embrace strategic planning through National Energy and Climate Plans. For buildings, strategic planning will be done through the national energy renovation strategies, which should be drafted in constant dialogue with stakeholders.
