ERDF trilogues: EuroACE calls for maintaining high percentages for climate thematic concentration

By making energy efficiency in buildings a key funding objective of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Members of the European Parliament called for EU regional spending that delivers job creation, energy savings and reduced regional imbalances. In the trilogues, the Council had to uphold this agreement.

An alliance of 17 companies under the umbrella of EuroACE urged the national representatives not to reduce the percentages of climate thematic concentration agreed by the Parliament: 22% in more developed regions and 12% in less developed regions, particularly if the scope were broadened to include ‘sustainable urban transport’. Otherwise, large ‘green transport’ projects would swallow disproportionate volumes of ERDF funding at the expense of the smaller, less visible energy efficiency projects in buildings.
