A binding 2030 energy efficiency target must be the cornerstone of the post-2020 debate

On 27 March 2013, the European Commission published its Green Paper on a 2030 framework for climate and energy policies. Energy efficiency is good for the economy, for business, for employment and for EU citizens. In response, EuroACE underlined the importance of three complementary binding targets, including a binding target for energy efficiency.

EuroACE, the voice of 16 leading companies working on energy efficiency in buildings, stressed that a binding EU energy efficiency target for 2030 would set the long-term stable policy framework needed to build investor confidence and transform the construction sector. Within that framework, a binding sectoral target for buildings, which are responsible for around 40% of EU energy consumption, is essential.
