EuroACE tells Energy Ministers to act now on efficient renovation
EuroACE was invited to address the closed working session of the informal meeting of Energy Ministers in Dublin on 24 April 2013. Adrian Joyce, Secretary General of EuroACE, underlined the significant contribution energy efficient renovation of buildings can make to the EU economy, with three key messages:
- An ambitious 2030 climate and energy policy is necessary to give businesses policy predictability and stimulate investor confidence, with a binding energy efficiency target including improvements in buildings, the end-use sector with the highest savings potential
- Structural barriers to investment in energy efficient renovation must be removed, such as rent regulation, fossil fuel subsidies, public accounting rules and the lack of risk management instruments for investors
- Now is the best time to start ambitious renovation programmes, with interest rates at a historical low and significant capacity in the labour market
