Limburg Social Housing, Belgium

The renovation of 63 social homes in Bilzen, completed in 2023, with insulation, new windows and doors and hybrid heat pumps. Real energy performance was monitored before and after the works, and energy costs fell by 60% on average.

Building envelope and structure

Renovating houses through targeted energy efficiency measures for social housing with pre- and post-monitoring of real energy performance.

Heating and energy

Pre and post monitoring, advanced insulation, high-efficiency windows and doors, state-of-the-art hybrid heat pumps.

Energy performance

60% average reduction in energy costs. Before renovation, the EPB calculations defined a total characteristic energy demand of 293 kWh/m² (E 243 label), whereas the actual measure performance indicated a heat demand of 63kWh/m² (which, inserted in EPB software would have meant a E62 – label). After renovation, the theoretical EPB performance dropped to 72kWh/m² (E28 label), where the real performance measures only measured 39kWh/m² (E3).
