Rémi Collombet, Secretary General of Efficient Buildings Europe, speaking at Hansgrohe's 125th anniversary

Efficient Buildings Europe at Hansgrohe's 125th anniversary and Commissioner Jørgensen's roundtable

Early September offered two very different, but closely connected, opportunities to reflect on what Europe needs to unlock investments and competitiveness. Our Secretary General, Rémi Collombet, spoke at both.

At our member Hansgrohe’s 125th anniversary on 1 September, one question stood out: what conditions are necessary for businesses to thrive? Two days later, at a high-level roundtable with Commissioner Dan Jørgensen organised by CLG Europe and Concito, the discussion turned to Europe’s post-2030 energy framework.

For businesses, some of the answers are clear: legislative stability, timely implementation and credible long-term objectives are essential. Companies need clarity and predictability to plan and invest in Europe.

But setting the destination is only part of the equation. We also need to accelerate implementation and get the financing and taxation framework right. For building renovation, this is not simply about public subsidies: it is about creating the right overall business case for investment and bringing businesses and citizens on board.

In this context, Rémi made the case for a post-2030 energy efficiency target. Targets provide the long-term signal industry needs to invest, but they can also reduce policy risk and, in turn, help lower the cost of finance for those investments.

Long-term ambition, a sound investment framework and effective delivery need to go hand in hand.
