Meeting with DG ENER on the post-2030 energy efficiency framework
Together with the Coalition for Energy Savings, our Secretary General, Rémi Collombet, met Margareta Djordjevic and Ivo Schmidt from the Energy Efficiency Unit of DG ENER, European Commission. We discussed the ongoing work to set the post-2030 energy efficiency framework and its impact on the EU’s energy priorities.
The Coalition highlighted that:
- Energy efficiency’s key role in improving the EU’s energy security, competitiveness and energy affordability must be fully leveraged via an ambitious post-2030 legal framework that offers continuity and regulatory stability by building on the existing one.
- A 2040 EU energy efficiency target, even with an adjusted and improved design, is necessary to send a clear signal to business and investors that energy efficiency remains a shared priority for the next decade.
- The Commission’s upcoming initiatives, including the Electrification Action Plan and any planned initiative on heating and cooling, must be designed with the Energy Efficiency First principle in mind and set the basis for an ambitious post-2030 energy efficiency framework.
Thank you to our colleagues at DG ENER for their time and the opportunity to exchange.
