Efficient Buildings Europe at the 4th Smart Readiness Indicator Joint Event
Effective data management and the strategic use of technology can unlock significant energy and water efficiency gains in our buildings. On 22 October, Afroditi Psatha joined the 4th Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) Joint Event on behalf of EPBD.wise. The event was organised by CINEA with LIFE projects working on the SRI.
Much progress has been made, from pilot cases across 16 EU countries, to training programmes developed by several LIFE projects, and online platforms that make SRI assessments more accessible and scalable. A few takeaways stood out:
- Buildings assessed have scored higher for smart readiness in helping building owners and occupants get more value from their buildings, by optimising energy use and improving comfort, health and well-being.
- Demand response and energy flexibility scored lower, showing there is still work ahead to unlock the potential of smart buildings.
- Integrating smart readiness assessments with Energy Performance Certificates and other EPBD provisions, such as renovation passports and indoor environmental quality, can lead to a holistic approach to buildings’ performance.
How digitalisation and the power of data can accelerate the decarbonisation of Europe’s building stock is one of our focus areas. The European Commission’s hub on the SRI brings together the outcomes of EU projects.
Thank you to Andrei Vladimir Lițiu for the organisation and to all the LIFE projects for contributing to the discussions.
