Members of Efficient Buildings Europe with Marcos González Álvarez of DG CLIMA at an Efficient Morning in Brussels

Efficient Morning with Marcos González Álvarez, Head of Unit, DG CLIMA

The upcoming revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the rollout of ETS2 will be defining milestones for Europe’s energy and buildings sectors. These were at the heart of our Efficient Morning discussion on 9 June with our members and Marcos González Álvarez, Head of Unit “ETS2 and Social Climate Plans” at DG CLIMA, European Commission.

One message emerged clearly: Europe cannot afford further delays in the implementation of ETS2.

Together with the deployment of the Social Climate Fund, the implementation of the EPBD and EED, and continued support for building renovation, ETS2 has the potential to become a key driver of energy efficiency and building decarbonisation across Europe. To achieve this, the Social Climate Fund must be deployed in a way that supports ETS2’s objective of accelerating the transformation of Europe’s building stock.

A big thank you to our members for their active engagement and contributions to the discussion.
