Efficient Buildings Europe at the March plenary of the European Parliament
During the March plenary week, Efficient Buildings Europe, together with several of our members, travelled to Strasbourg to attend the European Parliament plenary. The timing could not have been more relevant. During this same week:
- The Parliament approved its report on the housing crisis (read our reaction to the draft report).
- The Commission released its Citizens Energy Package.
- Letters of formal notice were sent to 19 Member States for not submitting their National Building Renovation Plans on time (read Renovate Europe’s letter to the ministers responsible).
Beyond following the parliamentary proceedings, our delegation met several Members of the European Parliament to discuss priorities for delivering on Europe’s energy efficiency goals. Across all meetings, we emphasised three key messages:
- Regulatory stability is essential. Now is the time to implement the established frameworks, the EPBD, EED and ETS2, and focus on delivery.
- Financing is critical. The next Multiannual Financial Framework must support energy-efficient buildings and accelerate renovation across Europe.
- Industry needs long-term visibility. A clear post-2030 energy efficiency framework will help unlock investment and drive the transition.
A special thank you to our members who joined us in Strasbourg and helped amplify the voice of the efficient buildings sector at the European Parliament. Together, we continue to push for the policies and investments needed to deliver a more sustainable and affordable building stock across Europe.
