Energy Efficiency Industrial Forum calls for an enabling regulatory framework on energy efficiency
The Energy Efficiency Industrial Forum (EEIF), convened by EuroACE and representing a wide range of European industries providing energy efficient products and services, welcomed the Commission’s ‘Clean Energy for All’ Package and called on the co-legislators to go further on energy efficiency legislation. The sector contributes €150 billion a year to the EU economy and around 1 million direct jobs.
“This is a step in the right direction, but it only ensures continuing the business as usual scenario. We are missing a once-in-a-decade opportunity to truly boost the energy efficiency market,” said Adrian Joyce, Secretary General of EuroACE and convenor of the EEIF, about the proposed 30% target.
The EEIF called for the 2030 target to be set at its proven cost-effective potential of 40%. Each additional 1% of energy savings means 500,000 additional jobs, more growth, and EU gas imports reduced by 2.6%.
