Heating & Cooling Strategy: Parliament demands action to reduce energy use in buildings
On 13 September 2016, the European Parliament Plenary approved an own-initiative report on the Heating & Cooling Strategy (Gierek Report), calling on the Commission to focus on reducing energy use in buildings ahead of the review of energy efficiency legislation.
“We welcome the strong position from the European Parliament just a few weeks ahead of the legislative proposals on energy efficiency, stating that reducing the energy demand in buildings is a pivotal part of this Heating & Cooling Strategy,” stated Alix Chambris, President of EuroACE.
“We are glad to see that the European Parliament called once again on the Commission and Member States to work together in order for our building stock to become highly energy efficient (nZEB level) by 2050, especially by adopting a holistic view on the energy renovation of buildings,” said Adrian Joyce, EuroACE Secretary General.
