Joint Statement on the Energy Union Governance Regulation
Together with investors and major business organisations from the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors, EuroACE called on Members of the European Parliament and Deputy Permanent Representatives to guarantee a robust, stable and predictable policy framework after 2020 through the Regulation on Energy Union Governance.
An ambitious Governance Regulation is a pre-condition for the Union to put Efficiency First and be a world leader in renewable energy. It needs to deliver on three main elements:
- Clear and actionable mechanisms if the Commission identifies an ambition or a delivery gap, including for Member States whose 2030 pledges are below their fair share
- Tracking progress against linear trajectories at national and Union level, reducing the risk of drastic regulatory changes and providing investor certainty
- Compatibility with the Paris Agreement, through an unambiguous and actionable long-term goal and a gradual increase of ambition over time
