POLITICO: the potential of buildings

POLITICO’s Morning Energy newsletter featured a statement from our Secretary General Adrian Joyce on the potential of buildings for energy efficiency:

More than 40 percent of the energy used across the European Union stems from the buildings sector, representing 36 percent of CO2 emissions, yet the current rate of renovation to make buildings more energy efficient is at only 1 percent per year. Accelerating the renovation pace could reduce energy demand in this sector by 80 percent across the bloc by 2050 from 2005 levels.
