Position Paper: The EU Multiannual Financial Framework post-2020
Investing in energy renovation of buildings: why, how much, and how? EuroACE submitted this position paper to the European Commission public consultations on the future Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the EU budget for 2021-2027.
The MFF should translate EU political priorities. EuroACE deeply regretted that climate action, the energy transition and decarbonisation were barely mentioned in the Commission’s Communication on a new, modern MFF. To be in line with its international commitments, the EU will have to move towards a decarbonised economy by 2050, and according to the International Energy Agency, 75% of additional investments to cut GHG emissions in Europe will have to be made in energy efficiency, with the buildings sector holding the biggest potential.
Funding energy renovation also brings a clear EU added value: local jobs, economic opportunities, competitiveness, better air quality and warm, healthy and comfortable homes, while helping to reduce inequalities between regions. The paper sets out how the MFF should be designed to secure enough funding for the energy renovation of buildings.
