Building renovation: a kick-starter for the EU economy

At the request of the Renovate Europe Campaign, the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) reviewed 35 research reports on the job creation and macro-economic benefits of energy renovation in the EU: the first such overview in almost six years, at a time when large funds were being mobilised for the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among its findings: for every €1 million invested in the energy renovation of buildings, an average of 18 local, long-term jobs are created in the EU, with numbers varying by country, from 29 in Croatia to 15 in Italy. The study and its infographic show that investing in energy renovation has a strong stimulus effect on the economy.
