Renovate Europe reaches out to safeguard energy renovation in InvestEU
Ahead of the InvestEU trilogues of 18 and 20 March 2019, the Renovate Europe Campaign called on the negotiators to keep the energy renovation of buildings as an explicit investment area in the Sustainable Infrastructure Window, as in the European Parliament’s position, supported by the Commission’s potential compromise text.
Buildings, whether schools, hospitals, police stations or homes, are essential infrastructure and require investment and renewal like any other. Making their renovation explicitly eligible would help bundle projects, build a pipeline and give confidence to investors, which is especially important as, in some Member States, 40 to 80% of public infrastructure investment comes from the EU budget.
