Improving the Taxonomy to unlock finance for efficient buildings: EBE’s response to the public consultation
The EU Taxonomy is a central instrument to steer private investment towards sustainable activities and plays a particularly important role in scaling up investments in the building sector.
The ongoing review of the Climate and Environmental Delegated Acts provides a critical opportunity to address implementation challenges, strengthen coherence with EU legislation, and ensure the framework effectively supports decarbonisation, renovation and affordability across Europe’s building stock.
Key elements are:
- Alignment with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
- Correct unintended market distortions and make the Taxonomy work for renovation finance
- Simplification while preserving credibility
- Maintaining robust DNSH criteria and water efficiency requirements
- Expanding the scope to include data centre energy efficiency equipment
