Renovate Europe Day 2022 in the European Parliament
Eyes on the Horizon: Renovating our Buildings to REPower the EU
Renovate Europe Day 2022 took place in the European Parliament, co-hosted by the EPBD Rapporteur Ciarán Cuffe MEP (Greens/EFA, Ireland), and was streamed online. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen opened the conference with a video address, stressing the need to put massive funds into renovation and the importance of an ambitious Energy Performance of Buildings Directive for the EU’s energy independence and climate neutrality by 2050.
The first session focused on the ongoing recast of the Directive and the role of Minimum Energy Performance Standards, with Marcos Ros Sempere MEP and Seán Kelly MEP, the Regulatory Assistance Project and BPIE. The second looked at how to finance the Renovation Wave, through public funds as well as private capital and bank schemes, with E3G, Pascal Canfin MEP, the European Investment Bank and Positive Money Europe.
National events. National partners of the campaign held their own Renovate Europe Day events: in Slovakia, a webinar on support schemes for single-family houses; in Ireland, a webinar on what SMEs need to know to be prepared for 2025; in Bulgaria, a national event addressed by Adrian Joyce, Director of the Renovate Europe Campaign; and in Poland, an expert debate on REPowerEU organised by Fala Renowacji and the European Commission Representation in Poland.
