Las Arenas Shopping Centre, Barcelona
A shopping centre in Barcelona’s former bullring, built in 1900 and converted in 2011. An energy management system now monitors and controls air conditioning and water use across the 106,000 m² site.
Building envelope and structure
The Centre occupies the old bullring, whose roof was replaced with lamella structure. Composite arches were introduced to support the existing wall. Extensive insulation and weather-proof finish were added to the structure.
Heating and energy
Monitoring and regulating air-conditioning systems were introduced, together with water management systems and digitalised meters reading water consumption.
Energy performance
The main improvement for the client was the introduction of the energy management system. Through water management tools, a centralisation of the reading of water meters was achieved throughout the site.
