Teatro Real de Madrid, Spain

The 1850 opera house in Madrid now runs on a fully electric heating and cooling system, with no need for fossil fuels. The upgrade, completed in 2023, saved 48% of its energy use.

Building envelope and structure

Monumental building.

Heating and energy

Update of the heating and cooling system through water-cooled chillers with screw compressors and speed regulators; air-cooled reversible heat pumps, with scroll compressors and high seasonal energy efficiency; air-cooled non-reversible heat pump, with scroll compressors and a high water production temperature.

Energy performance

After the works, the building benefits from a fully electric system, with no need for fossil fuels, energy savings of 48% and maximum reliability.
