EuroACE at the eceee Summer Study 2022 – Can we calculate what we don’t measure?
From 6 to 11 June 2022, the EuroACE team took part in the Summer Study of eceee, the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, in Hyères, France. eceee is Europe’s largest and oldest NGO dedicated to energy efficiency, and its Summer Studies have brought experts together since 1993 to network and exchange ideas in an informal, solutions-based atmosphere.
After Covid, the Summer Study gave many people the chance to finally meet in person again, with all the networking that comes with it. The wide range of plenaries and sessions, both official and informal, also allowed the team to learn about many different areas: financing schemes, Energy Performance Certificates, how renewables and efficiency work together, multiple benefits and more.
EuroACE organised an informal session entitled ‘Can we calculate what we don’t measure? EPC methodologies’. Rob Murray-Leach, Head of Policy at Australia’s Energy Efficiency Council, presented NABERS, an Australian rating system that measures and communicates the environmental performance of buildings and points to cost savings and future improvements. The programme, and whether it could work at EU level, led to a lively debate with a wide range of views on how it works and whether it could be replicated.
