Private Financing for Energy Renovation

2025, a key year for Europe

2025 is a key year for Europe to decarbonise its buildings, become energy independent and tackle energy poverty. The European Commission is relaunching the Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition and preparing an Affordable Housing Plan, which will give financial institutions and investors a new framework to deploy capital in the transition of Europe’s real estate.

The Renovate Europe Campaign, the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) and Climate Strategy & Partners brought together EU policymakers, financial institutions and building stakeholders to discuss the state of play of energy efficiency finance for real estate, and how private financing can boost energy renovation.

After a welcome by Rémi Collombet, two panels with speakers from ING, DWS, AXA, the EIB, the Climate Bonds Initiative, the European Savings and Retail Banking Group and the Cabinet of Commissioner Jørgensen discussed EU rules for real estate assets and the role of financial institutions in the European Affordable Housing Plan. Peter Sweatman, CEO of Climate Strategy & Partners, presented the EU Renovation Loan as a service for Member States.
