Roundtable on renovating all educational buildings by 2035
In October 2025, the Renovate Europe Campaign launched its campaign to renovate all educational buildings by 2035, calling on all EU Member States to make schools and universities frontrunners in the transition to a zero-emission building stock, with dedicated measures in their National Building Renovation Plans.
As part of the campaign, a roundtable was held at the European Parliament on 23 June, hosted by Marcos Ros Sempere MEP. Educators, students, parents, policymakers and experts discussed the role of educational buildings in Europe’s climate and energy objectives, and the benefits of deep renovation for learning, health, comfort and energy performance.
Robert Nuij (DG ENER, European Commission) explained how Member States can give educational buildings a place in their plans, and Quentin Jossen (CLIMACT) presented the findings of the study on National Building Renovation Plans. Student and parent organisations, Fontana Design and HUPFAS, Renovate Europe’s National Partner in Croatia, shared their experience.
