Delivering the EPBD on the Ground: Heating & Cooling
This webinar explored how heating and cooling solutions are shaping the future of buildings across Europe, bringing together perspectives from EU policymakers, industry leaders, and local authorities.
The discussion started with an overview from the European Commission, setting the policy context and outlining key priorities for the sector, alongside insights from Efficient Buildings Europe’s EPBD Implementation Guide. Together, these perspectives highlighted how regulatory frameworks are driving improvements in energy efficiency, system performance, and the decarbonisation of buildings.
Building on this foundation, the webinar showcased real-world applications and case studies. From the energy renovation of historic buildings, illustrated by the Archaeological Museum of Madrid, to innovative approaches for optimising heating and cooling systems, speakers demonstrated how technical solutions are evolving in practice. The session will also explore advanced HVAC systems for modern buildings and present lessons learned from Mechelen’s Heat Plan, offering a local perspective on translating strategy into implementation.
